The emphasis in this guide is to list resources for research in Christian theology, and more specifically in Catholic theology. Some more general resources and resources for other religious traditions are listed as well. While some of the items require that one's college or university library acquire the resource through purchase or subscription, most of this list is composed of free web reources.

Bibliographical
Information Base in Patristics
This Web site provides access to the bibliographical services of the BIBP by
allowing one to search its database of over 29,000 records of articles from
about 350 journals. Presently the database can be searched only in French.
Google
Scholar
Google's search engine for finding scholarly literature. If your library subscribes
to e-journals, some citations may lead to full text articles.
THEOLDI
(a theological index)
Indexes journals and monographs in biblical studies, systematic and fundamental
theology, canon law, and material about René Girard. Maintained by the
School of Theology at the University of Innsbruck
IngentaConnect
Allows searching 18 million articles from over 29 thousand publications. Ingenta
also offers individuals the ability to sign up for email Table of Contents (TOC)
alerts.

Augustine
Primary texts in Latin and English along with secondary material. An excellent
resource which also includes images.
The
Bible Gateway
Allows searching and browsing of the RSV and NIV translations.
The
Catholic Encyclopedia
This is an electronic version of the standard 15 volume reference work published
during 1907-1913. The articles are still in the process of being digitized but
a great many are already available and still useful despite the dated scholarship.
Christian
Classics Ethereal Library
Includes the World Wide Study Bible, a list of Bible-related resources on the
World WideWeb organized by scripture reference, and the Early Church Fathers,
an electronic version of the Ante-Nicene , Nicene and Post-Nicene Series I,
and Nicene and Post-Nicene Series II.
Duke
Papyrus Archive
Electronic access to texts about and images of 1,373 papyri from ancient Egypt.
The target audience includes: papyrologists, ancient historians, archaeologists,
biblical scholars, classicists, Coptologists, Egyptologists, students of literature
and religion and all others interested in ancient Egypt.

Initiative: A Hypertext Encyclopedia of Early Church History
Scholarly articles on church history up to the Reformation. In progress. With

An authoritative directory for finding out what open
access (i.e., freely available) electronic journals are available on the web.
NewJour:
Electronic Journals and Newsletters
An important web site maintained by academic librarians and scholars. Its archive
goes back to 1995 and is searchable by keyword. Entries for each journal have
descriptions and links to the journal web site. Frequently updated.
Spiritus
Journal of the Society for the Study of
Christian Spirituality. Access requires membership in the Society.

Project
A web site introduction to Diana Eck's current electronic project to gather
and distribute information about religions in the U.S. It includes this
page of selected links to other resources in religion.

Colleges and Universities in the U.S.
A web site created by the National Catholic College Admission Association for
prospective students and their parents, it is useful for identifying Catholic
institutions of higher education in the U.S. The search interface allows
searching by region, total undergraduate enrollment, campus setting (rural,
suburban, urban), and undergraduate academic programs.

Society
of Biblical Literature
The Society of Biblical Literature, founded in 1880, has a membership of nearly
7,000. Its purpose is to stimulate the critical investigation of biblical literature,
together with other related literature, by the exchange of scholarly research
both in published form and in public forum.
