excellent beginning for those seeking a cultural analysis of the rise
of eating disorders in Western culture. For a scholarly work, this
book is extraordinarily readable, making the information
accessible even to adolescents.
The following except is taken from Rachel Evans article entiltled "Eradicating the Cult of Thinness."
This book is a worthy successor to The Beauty Myth (1991)
by Naomi Wolf. While Am I Thin Enough Yet? is only half
the size of The Beauty Myth, its breadth, analysis and readability matches, and in some aspects surpasses, Wolf's book.

Book Awards:
The academic librarians' magazine Academia chose Dr.Hesse-Biber's publication Working Women in America: Split Dream as one of the 1 000 core books that all libraries should have in their collection.
In addition, in the May 19th 2005 Publishing Report from the Library Journal Academic Newswire Dr.Hesse-Biber's book was recognized as one of the top ten best selling books in business and economics in academic and public libraries during the winter of 2004-2005.

Approaches to Qualitative Research: A Reader on Theory and Practice, which Professor Hesse-Biber co-authored, was cited as a desired book in qualitative research by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (the National Health) for 2007. The recommendation was compiled by the Academy of Health.
