In English, we may say: I hope she sings. This sounds strange in Spanish, because she sings is a statement of fact. She will not necessarily sing just because I hope she will. Spanish therefore says I hope she may sing, with may sing being a single verb in the subjunctive mood. This verb form will be required in dependent clauses after such verbs as want, wish, hope, doubt, fear, and also in certain impersonal expressions, such as It is important (necessary, probable) that. It also appears after verbs of emotion, like I am delighted that.

Indicatives and subjunctives trade endings.The endings for -ar verbs in the subjunctive mood are the same as the endings for -er verbs in the indicative mood, except that the third person and first person singular* forms are the same:
