HONORS PROGRAM WRITING INITIATIVE
The HP Writing Initiative is being designed as a resource
for first, second and third year students, in order to facilitate the process
of writing the Senior Thesis. Each year will offer a series of workshops
(three per year), in cooperation with theWriters Block Project (senior
tutors) and culminate with a short essay on a selected work of literature
(poem, or the like), which will become part of the students' portfolios.
Through the aid of on-line tutoring, first and second year students will
be able to apply the information from the workshops to their course assignments.
Using essays from James Olney's Metaphors of
Self, and other essays on the craft of writing and interpretaion of
literature, the Writing Initiative will offer an integrated four year package
that will further strengthen and support the purposes of the Honors Program.
In order to present this project to our freshmen,
sophomores, and juniors in an effective manner, the Initiative will rely
on seniors who have been part of the Writers Block program, as well as
seniors who are working on theses
