Britannica Online - the web version of an important reference work, this is frequently updated and offers links to other material on the web.

The Encyclopedia Mythica - an encyclopedia on mythology, folklore, and magic containing over 3600 definitions of gods and goddesses, supernatural beings and legendary creatures and monsters from all over the world.


Indexes

FRANCIS - covers a wide range of multilingual, multidisciplinary information in the humanities and social sciences, especially religion, art history, and literature; coverage is 1984 to the present and 80% of records include an author abstract. (Quest)

QWIL - an interdisciplinary index to over 800 journals, all of which are owned by Boston College Libraries. (Quest

UnCover/Reveal - an index to 17,000 periodicals in all subject areas.  This database also offers two fee-based services, one that sends you the table of contents for up to 50 periodicals as they are available, the other which searches the entire database of periodicals once a week for items matching your search terms.


Electronic Periodicals

Diaspora Newsletter - publication suspended since January 1997, but electronic versions of issues published during May 1995 - December 1996 are available.  It is "an independent publication seeking to inform the Greek diaspora worldwide on matters of Hellenic interest."  Its contributors are Greek academics and professionals in North America and Europe.

DIDASKALIA: Ancient Theater Today - reports on the latest developments in Greek and Roman drama, dance, and music as they are performed today.

Focus on the World - a monthly publication that offers information about the culture, history, tourism, music, cuisine, travel agents and hotel of the Mediterranean countries. Also takes a detailed look at the Mediterranean civilizations.

The Ancient City of Athens - a photographic archive of the archaeological and architectural remains of ancient Athens (Greece).  Created by Kevin T. Glowacki & Nancy L. Klein, Department of Classical Studies, Indiana University, Bloomington, 1995.

The Atlas of the Greek and Roman World - the web site for the Classical Atlas Project which will produce an important atlas of the ancient period.  It will be published in 1999 by Princeton University Press.

Travel Guide to Greece, a site maintained by Plus Network Services S.A., a company located in Rhodes, Greece.

Oreivatein - links to information about the mountains of Greece.

Greece, The Land of the Gods -  the Greek page of Winona State University World Wide Web services and created by a student in 1995.  

Greek Embassy - many links to web sites on Greek culture, politics, news, etc.

Perseus Project Homepage - a digital library of resources for studying the ancient world. This can be used in combination with Perseus 2.0, the set of CD-ROMs available at O'Neill Library.

Searching the Internet: Recommended Sites and Search Techniques - an excellent site for identifying the various tools for searching the web and instructions on how to use them.  This page is maintained by Laura B. Cohen, Network Services Librarian at the State University of New York at Albany.
