Quest - a system of databases including BCAT, the Boston College Libraries' online catalog.

Graduate Theological Union Library

HOLLIS - Harvard's online library catalog which has the union list of serials for BTI (Boston Theological Institute) libraries. HOLLIS can, therefore, help to locate periodicals in any of the eight BTI libraries.

Library of Congress Experimental Search System - this great library's latest effort at making their collections more easily searched

THEOLDI (a theological index) - indexes journals and monographs in biblical studies, systematic and fundamental theology, canon law, and material about René Girard.

UnCover/Reveal - an index to 17,000 periodicals in all subject areas.  This database also offers two fee-based services, one that sends you the table of contents for up to 50 periodicals as they are available, the other which searches the entire database of periodicals once a week for items matching your search terms.

Full Text Databases

ARTFL Project: Bibles. Allows full text browsing or word searches of the King James version, the Luther Bibel (1984), the Elberfelder Bibel (1985), Jerome's Latin Vulgate and a French version (1910 - Louis Segond, trans.).

Augustine. Primary texts in Latin and English along with secondary material. An excellent resource which also includes images.

The Bible Gateway - allows searching and browsing of the RSV and NIV translations.

Books On-line: Call Numbers Starting With BL-BX. HTML and/or ASCII versions of a wide range of texts in theology and religion.

The Catholic Encyclopedia. This is an electronic version of the standard 15 volume reference work published during 1907-1913. The articles are still in the process of being digitized but a great many are already available and still useful despite the dated scholarship.

Documents of the Roman Catholic Church. Documents from Trent, Vatican II, papal encyclicals, US Bishops' statements, the new catechism, writings of the Fathers, etc.

Early Church On-Line Encyclopedia. Scholarly articles on church history up to the Reformation. In progress. With images and links to other sites with historical documents.

Guide to Early Church Documents. Canonical documents, creeds, writings of the Apostolic Fathers, and other historical texts.

Past Masters - full text database in philosophy. Available by purchase.

Patrologia Latina Database. All the texts published by Migne in the famous 19th century collection of patristic and early medieval works. Available by purchase.

Thomas Aquinas: Summa Theologica. Translation by the Fathers of the English Dominican Province, 1947.

Electronic Journals and Reviews

Bryn Mawr Classical Review. Book reviews of important, recently published works; provides a search engine for locating reviews on particular topics.

Bryn Mawr Medieval Review. Similar to the previous title, but for the medieval period.

NewJour: Electronic Journals and Newsletters. An important web site maintained by academic librarians and scholars. Its archive goes back to 1995 and is searchable by keyword. Entries for each journal have descriptions and links to the journal web site. Frequently updated.

JSTOR. JSTOR ("journal storage") is an important new project which plans to have nearly complete runs of scholarly journals in electronic format. It is now possible to do a full text keyword search of articles in Speculum from 1926 to 1989. The project will have about 100 journals available in several years, and it will be adding journals in philosophy. Restricted to users on the BC network. Available by subscription.

Religion & the Arts. The newest journal from Boston College.

TC: A Journal of Biblical Textual Criticism, 1996- . A refereed journal.

Union Seminary Quarterly Review, 1994- , v. 48- .

Project Muse - a new endeavor by the Johns Hopkins University Press to make their journals accessible to subscribers over the WWW. Of the 40 journal titles, several may be of interest to theological research: Human Rights Quarterly, v. 17- , 1995- ; Journal of Early Christian Studies, v. 4- , 1996- ; Modern Judaism, v. 16- , 1996- . Other journals cover subjects in literature, modern thought, philosophy, psychology, and psychiatry. Available by subscription.

Boston Theological Institute. The home page for the BTI with links to information about the nine schools and eight libraries which belong to this consortium.

Catholic Information Center on the Internet. Under the direction of Archbishop Renato Martino, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, a web site devoted to presenting official teachings of the Church. Includes Catholic internet, pro-life and media directories as well as forums on particular issues and links to Catholic publications.

Catholic Resources on the Net. A web site maintained by a layperson with a large number of links to other sites.

Catholic Internet Directory - another gateway to Catholic internet sources.  This site includes a page of the 20 most popular Catholic web sites.

The Directory of Scholarly and Professional E-Conferences - includes discussion lists, newsgroups, mailing lists, interactive web chat groups (e-conferences), etc.  It can be searched by keyword or browsed by subject category; for theology, check both "Philosophy and Ethics" and "Religious Studies".

Fides Quaerens Internetum. Provides links to theology departments, publishers, bookstores, and other resources.

MinistryLink. Employment opportunities in church ministry; a web site maintained at St. John's School of Theology & Seminary in Collegeville, MN.

Openings. Job opportunities for scholars of religion and theology.

TELA: Scholars Press WWW Site. Links to home pages for the AAR (American Academy of Religion), SBL (Society of Biblical Literature), APA (American Philological Association), and to publishers' catalogs.
