Description
This course,
taught by practitioners Peter Bell
(BC ‘86) and John Clavin (BC
‘84) provides Boston College sophomores with an excellent
opportunity to explore the functional disciplines of business from
a “real world” perspective. Using a combination of lectures,
case studies, readings and outside speakers, the course will provide
you the opportunity to get “grounded” in each of these
disciplines as well as get some outside views on careers in each
of these areas. The course will also provide students a framework
to explore and discuss cross-functional issues that effect business
strategy and execution.
Course
Format
The course puts an emphasis on class discussion of the assigned materials (primarily case studies related to the discipline we are focusing on that week). Students need to be prepared each week to participate and defend their analysis of the material. There will be a short quiz at the start of each class session on the assigned reading materials. Students are also required to submit questions at the start of each class for the guest speaker. Students will be responsible for a group project where teams of approximately 5 students will present their analysis of a relevant case to the class. The final will be a case study that will bring together many of the topics discussed in the class.
