Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my web site, where I hope to convey some sense of who I am as an academic professional and as a person.

I was born and raised in New England, where I truly enjoy all four seasons and exploring the local waterways on my kayak. Despite having stayed close to home, I also love to travel. Past travels have found me shark-diving in South Africa; studying abroad in The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary; teaching in England; golfing in Ireland; cruising through the Caribbean; and vacationing in Greece, Canada, and across the United States.

Below is a summary of my education. My research, teaching, and service experience are on separate pages, available through the menus above and below, as is my Curriculum Vitae in PDF format.

 RESEARCH
INTERESTS

My primary research interest is on institutional, network, and identity-based mechanisms of conformity in and of organizations and I have applied institutional theory and social identity theory in my research. Under that umbrella, my dissertation focuses on how agency is used to preserve and stabilize institutions that have come under threat. Empirically based on the creation of the Securities and Exchange Commission, I use grounded theory to examine the mechanisms used by agents attempting to restore stability to the stock market in the wake of the crash of 1929. I also have research interests in leadership, social networks, and innovative applications of research methodologies.
