RESEARCH INTERESTS
My primary research interest is on institutional, network, and identity-based mechanisms of conformity in and of organizations. In particular, I have developed streams of research relating to institutional theory and passing. Under that umbrella, my dissertation focuses on how agency is used to preserve and stabilize institutions that have come under threat. I also have research interests in leadership, social networks, and innovative applications of research methodologies. More information about my research identity is available here.
DISSERTATION
My dissertation, Institutional Guardianship: The Role of Agency in Preserving Threatened Institutional Arrangements, investigates how agents work to preserve valued institutions that have come under threat. In contrast to research in institutional entrepreneurship which links agency with change, I address the question of how agency can be used to promote institutional stability by studying how various agents worked to preserve and stabilize the stock market in the mid 1930s amidst a crisis in confidence that threatened its legitimacy.
