Preparation Sheets and Powerpoint Slides:

Links to web resources:

  • www.internettutorials.net: A great resource for internet search and the internet in general.
  • BU Online Databases: The place to access Business Source Complete, Lexis and many other full text databases.
  • http://scholar.google.com/: A resource for finding academic articles, often including full text. If you’re at BC or have your BC VPN loaded, you often get “FindIT@BC” tags as way to retrieve full text.

·        How to Install the BC VPN: The BC VPN is a piece of software that makes it look to the internet like you are on the BC campus even when you are not. It’s quite easy to install, but doesn’t always work from behing a company’s firewall

  • Computers In Management Search Engine: Google allows people to build their own version of its search engine. BC Prof. Jerry Kane built this version, which limits search to a set of 15 high quality sites related to technology.
  • http://del.icio.us:  The leading “social bookmarking” site. Once you down load this (or Furl), you’ll wonder how you lived with out it. It’s easy to import your current bookmarks. Once you sign up, click on “settings” and look for the “import/upload” link under “bookmarks”
  • http://furl.net: Another popular “social bookmarking” site. Unlike del.icio.us, Furl actually saves a copy of the pages you mark. One advantage is you can do a full text search on your own saved pages.
  • http://www.digg.com: A news site that contains articles that are “highly recommended” by growing legions of digg.com users. You can also search del.icio.us and furl.net to find articles that lots of people have tagged or saved. All these options let “wisdom of crowds” help you find the best content.
  • Week-in-Geek: A terrific blog on key developments in technology maintained by BC Prof. John Gallaugher. It takes 10 seconds to subscribe to have each week’s edition emailed to you.
