Scottish Parliament buildings Scottish Parliament building - This is my favorite piece of modern architecture that I've ever seen.  Enric Miralles with Barcelona architects EMBT and their partners RMJM Scotland won an international competition to design a home for the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood in July 1998.  The design is based on a building 'sitting in the land' and includes leaf-shaped buildings and landscaping with native plants.

St. Giles Cathedral on High Street (the Royal Mile) - a church has been on this
site since the 9th century, but the current building is from the 13th century on.

Left is the grave of Scottish philosopher, economist, historian David Hume in the Old Calton Cemetery.  While we were there we ran into a woman who was so glad we'd heard of Hume because she thought not enough people have.  She was in town because a new statue of Adam Smith had just been unveiled that day and a friend of hers had designed it.  So then of course we had to go find that on High Street near St. Giles.
