Linda
and Chris' Honeymoon to Costa Rica
(August 2004)
(Please click on the photo for our pictures, on the map to follow where
we went, or on the various links to find out more
about that location or hotel)
We had an amazing honeymoon! We flew into San
Jose, Costa Rica on
Monday, August 9th, 2004 and stayed at the Hotel Barcelo Parque del
Lago in the city. On Tuesday, we had a very early start
(6:30am) for our 5 hour trip to the next adventure - Mawamba Lodge in the Tortuguero
National Park. The trip was 3 hours by car and 2 hours by boat
through canals. It was an amazing hideaway where we spent some
time Tuesday and Wednesday touring the national park (rainforest) by
boat and on foot. We saw some amazing wildlife and had a great
time here. We also were able to see the sea
turtles nesting,
but were not able to bring cameras to take pictures. It was an
amaizing experience that no words can describe. To find out more
about them and to see some photos, please visit the Caribbean Conservation
Corporation.
On Thursday morning we left
Mawamba
very early for
our 3-4 hour trip to our lunch stop (same one that we went to on
Tuesday). From there, it was another hour or so to the next
hotel, Hotel
Montana del Fuego. Once we arrived, we quickly checked in and
went to the Tabacon
Hot Springs for the rest of the day and evening. After
relaxing in the natural hot and cold springs, at the poolside wet bar,
and at the restaurant, we went back to the hotel for some sleep.
On Friday, we left the
Arenal region without
being able to see the Arenal Volcano (it was too foggy) and were driven
to the Mid Pacific region of Costa Rica where we finished up our
trip. On the way to
Jaco Beach, we stopped at the botanical gardens in the area (which were
actually owned by a native Texan). Once in Jaco that evening, we
checked in at the
Arenal del Pacifico hotel and then checked out the town that
night. On Saturday and Sunday, we ate at some really good
restaurants, strolled around the town, went to the beach, and saw some
surfers. Jaco has such a large influx of surfers from all over
the world that it is a
pretty diverse town - with Ticos and foreigners alike. Tico (or
the female tica)
is the name given to a native Costa Rican.
While in Jaco, we also
went on the zip line canopy tours. Unfortunately, I didn't get
any photos because I was too worried about dropping my camera. To
get an idea of what it looks like, here is a
link with a few pictures from a magazine writer's web site. I
also found a cool description on the Epinions web site.
The writer went with a different tour company, but his entry describes
our trip as well. On Monday
morning we were up early for the drive back to San Jose and the flight
home. We were sad to leave such a beautiful and welcoming
country, but we also couldn't wait to get back to Burlington to start
our new life together. Enjoy the photos and following with the
map.
