RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests center on how individuals come to think of themselves and the consequences of this self-knowledge. In particular, I am interested in how self-related feedback, especially social comparison-based feedback, influences self-regulatory processes and the affect that results from these processes. Within this focus, my research seeks to answer the following questions: Does social comparison affect how individuals perceive themselves relative to their goals? What are the cognitive and affective consequences of feedback-induced self-concept change? How do individuals defend themselves from threatening self-related feedback? My research employs several experimental social psychological techniques to address these questions.

  • SOCIAL COMPARISON
  • SELF AND IDENTITY
  • SOCIAL COGNITION
