Overview

Serials Solutions provides MARC records for all electronic journals available through full text aggregators at your institution. We combine our holdings data with CONSER bibliographic records. When combining this data, we have the opportunity to make several customizations to the records, based on your preferences. This form asks for information about what changes you would like to see in the records we provide.

When completed, please fax or email this form to 206-525-9066 or peter@serialssolutions.com. Feel free to incorporate your responses into the document itself. Suggestions for improvement of the form are also welcome.

Standard Edits

The following fields will be changed in every record. These changes reflect Serials Solutions as the source of the records.

LDR_05

Will be either ‘n’, ‘c’, or ‘d’, based on the record’s status as new, corrected, or deleted at your institution.

001

Insert a Serials Solutions-generated journal-specific control number

003

This will read "WaSeSS," Serials Solutions’ MARC organization code

005

Insert date and time of last Serials Solutions modification.

035

Delete original. Replace with content of 001, preceded by "WaSeSS".

040

Append "|dWaSeSS" to existing list of organization codes. Delete existing 040 and make a new one 040 |a WaSeSS |cWaSeSS

Record Selection

In cases where discrete records appear for print and online versions of a journal, Serials Solutions can begin with either record, or with a ‘neutral’ record, which does not specifically define the format of the record. Please indicate the priority with which you would like us to use records when generating your MARC records, using ‘1’ as the highest priority, and ‘3’ as the lowest:

1 priority for PRINT records

_3 priority for ONLINE records

_2 priority for NEUTRAL records (these records do not explicitly state that they are for a specific record format, though they generally describe the print format)

Delete existing 856s. Replace with library-specific URLs that include holdings dates and journal-specific links.

Select a style, or define your preferred style under ‘f,’ below.

856 Options: The following are several formats for 856s. A separate 856 will appear for each manifestation of a journal – a single MARC record will contain multiple 856s if that journal is available to you through multiple aggregators or publishers. Variable fields, which Serials Solutions will fill, appear in italics. Most systems appear to work best with the text appearing in subfield z, and the URL in subfield u (such as in examples a and b).

f. Locally defined format; please describe:

856 40|zSelected full text available from [aggregator name]: [start date] to [end date]|u[URL]

Additional Edits

Additional changes – if there are other changes you would like to see in these records, please describe them here or in an email to peter@serialssolutions.com. Examples include global deletions of other fields, ‘limited access’ notes, or fixed-field changes. We will incorporate your requests whenever possible, though complex requests may require additional review.

Field Changes requested

Delete all 776 fields before creating new 776 fields for us (update 11/1/03).

022--Please leave the 022 in the records and also copy it to the 776 for the original. Add additional 022s containing the e-issns (whenever available) of all electronic versions of the journal to which Boston College subscribes. (We want to be sure that the ISSNs remain available in the 022 for SFX linking.)

The 776 for the original should be formatted according to MARC21 spacing and punctuation:

776 1 |c Original |x (ISSN #) |w (DLC 010) |w (OCoLC #)
