Some participants got in a little practice on the kazoo in preparation for leading the morris dance processional.
A team of oxen -- wisely staying at the end of the processional -- pulled the cart with the maypole.
Once the dancers and other revelers reached Sanders Theater, it was time to put up the maypole.
John Roberts (L) and Tony Barrand led a rendition of "Staines Morris."

Then it was time to dance, and a couple of Mulberry Morris kids (with springs inside their legs) started things off.
Orion Sword's musical accompaniment is as imaginative as their dancing.
Team X did "Parting Glass."

Banbury Cross did a four-person version of "Webley Jig," followed by a four-person group hug.

I stuck the concertina with Banburyite Kate to join in a pick-up
set of Red Herring and Westerly Morris for a never-rehearsed performance
of "Banks of the Dee," some of which was actually successful...
...and some of which was not.
