MB 145
Amanco
1. What sort of problems are faced by Amanco due to working in Latin America?
2. Exhibit 4 in the case purports to show a matrix organization, but it is not a particularly clear chart. Redraw the chart in a way that reflects your best guess as to how the matrix works. (It may be more accurate to describe Amanco as a hybrid structure in our terms.) Why do they use a matrix organization?
3. Amanco has tried to develop a sustainability scorecard over time with a "triple bottom line". What are the goals of the triple bottom line? Compare the scorecards over time. How have they changed?
4. What do you think is the purpose of the scorecard? How does Amanco try to assure that the goals on the scorecard are met? How does the scorecard relate to the mission and goals of Amanco? (See Daft, chapter 2 for a discussion of mission and goals.)
5. Is Amanco responding to stakeholders or trying to be proactive in its
businesses? Which of Miles and Snow's strategies do you think Amanco is pursuing?
6. Is Amanco being successful at pursuing sustainability? What problems do
you think they have? What suggestions do you have for improvement?
