If you were going to read one article this semester, this would be it. There are a number of things to pay attention to. First, the article is an example of formulating a hypothesis and testing it. Second, this is a very unusual article in that the authors did both a quantitative and qualitative analysis. It is the only article I am aware of where the researchers analyzed the quantitative data, were dissatisfied and then visited research sites to observe what was going on, leading to a reformulation of their hypotheses. We will refer to this article repeatedly throughout the semester, and you can bet it will appear on one or more quizzes. Don't worry about all the details, just know and understand the hypotheses and the difference between quantitative and qualitative data.
