Prof. Drew Yanno

FM303 Advanced Screenwriting  - Syllabus

Course Objective:

You will apply the knowledge gained in Screenwriter to your own efforts at writing the first act of a screenplay for a full-length feature film.

Required Reading:

There is no textbook for this class.  You may wish to refer to The Third Act: Writing a Great Ending to Your Screenplay from Screenwriter (FM301) as needed.

Attendance:

You must attend every class and be on time.  More than one missed class without an excuse approved by me may result in your dismissal from class.  Again, attendance is mandatory.

Participation:

Class participation in this class is mandatory.   You will read, evaluate and offer constructive advice to other students on their individual assignments and writing.  Everyone must do so in order for all to benefit.

Assignments & Grading:

There will be no exams.  You will complete a number of written assignments on a class-by-class basis.  These are designed to help you in your eventually writing a complete finished first Act (25-30 pages) of your screenplay by the semester’s end.  Your final grade will reflect the quality of your efforts on the final project, the individual assignments, and your participation in class.

In order to complete the final project (a finished first act), you will be expected to purchase screenwriting software (Movie Magic Screenwriter) which will be available through the Boston College Bookstore.

Office Hours:

You may see me after class to schedule a time and place to meet.  You may also e-mail me at drew.yanno.1@bc.edu.  In addition, you should check my BC web site (www2.bc.edu/~yanno) periodically to find the latest news and important dates regarding this course.
