Dr. Ina Mullis is co-director for the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). She is a research professor in Boston College's Graduate School of Education. Prior to helping direct TIMSS, Dr. Mullis was director of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) at the Educational Testing Service. She was principal author or co-author of more than two dozen NAEP reports. Dr. Mullis has considerable expertise in assessment issues, including international assessment, measuring complex student skills and understandings, evaluating progress in performance, and analyzing achievement data. She has served on a number of national advisory committees. Currently, she is a member of the NAEP Validity Study Panel, advisor to National Center for Education Statistics on its international indicators project, and evaluation specialist for the Foundation for Teaching Economics, Economics for Leaders program. She has a special interest in improving assessment methods and on the policy uses of assessment information to increase student learning.
