The Michael J. Barclay Award

Michael J. Barclay (1957-2007) was exceptional in many ways and touched the lives of everyone with whom he interacted. The Financial Research Association recognizes the tremendous impact he had on the education and subsequent careers of many Ph.D. students through the Michael J. Barclay Award. This award is given each year to a deserving young scholar. Mike was patient and very generous with his time to all Ph.D. students who sought his advice during the 22 years that he was at University of Rochester's Simon School. He had the uncommon ability to provide insightful feedback to students in all areas of finance. At the Simon School Mike supervised 21 Ph.D. students, 5 of whom are current FRA program committee members. Mike's memory and the example he set lives on in all of us who knew him.
