Slalom skating is just like slalom skiing, except for the part about snow and skis and those annoying ski poles... It does share the cones, though! The purpose of slalom skating is to go down a hill and turn in and out of orange cones as fast as possible.
This is done on short decks, typically around 30" so that tight turns can be executed. The wheels are also softer, which grips better. You want wheels that grip well for slalom so that you do not slide while making tight turns.
