Welcome to the Infant and Child Cognition Lab!

The Infant and Child Cognition Lab is situated in the Psychology Department at Boston College, headed by Dr. Sara Cordes. Research in the lab focuses on understanding how infants, children, and adults keep track of quantity and how early abilities relate to later mathematics achievement.

We are currently recruiting 3-24 month old infants, 2-17 year old children, and Boston College undergraduates to participate in our studies. Please click on the links above to learn more about our studies and to learn how to participate!

Summer 2018 Research Internship for Undergraduates

We are looking for motivated and reliable undergraduates interested in participating in a summer research internship in developmental psychology. This is a great opportunity for students looking to gain valuable research experience in the field of cognitive development.

This internship is open to any current undergraduate student, and is best suited for students who wish to pursue graduate study in psychology. Students from primarily undergraduate and liberal arts institutions are strongly encouraged to apply. Each intern will have a primary research project to focus on, gaining valuable experience in running studies in the lab and at local museums and schools, working with infants and /or children, subject recruitment, data coding and analysis, and much more. Interns will also attend lab meetings where we discuss the theories behind our studies, our current projects, and relevant research findings from other labs.

The 10-week summer internship will involve a commitment of approximately 35 hours per week from June 4th to August 17th, 2018 (start and end dates are flexible). Interns will either receive funding or course credit.

To apply, please send your current CV, official or unofficial transcript, and a cover letter describing your interests and experiences to Raychel Gordon (gordonrg@bc.edu) with the subject line: BC ICCL Summer Internship Application, and then complete the online application here. The submission deadline is Friday, March 9, 2018.

How to Participate

For parents of infants and children

Young infants are surprisingly good at tracking number and other quantities long before they learn how to speak. We study how these abilities change throughout infancy and childhood and their relationship to later understandings of formal mathematical concepts. In order to do so, we need your help!...more information>

For undergraduates

We are currently recruiting Boston College undergraduates and other adults to participate in studies in our lab to help us understand more about how we keep track of quantity...more information>
