Hey Tom,

I ran into Michelle Welch (Fino now) at a party back in Michigan and she reminded me that I’ve been incommunicado for a few years. Just wanted to drop you a quick note, let you know I’m doing well, and wish you and your family a happy holiday season!

I am in my last year of law school at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN (Finally!) and will be working for a large law firm in Chicago (Kirkland & Ellis LLP) where I worked this summer, after I graduate. They’ll work me pretty hard for a few years, then I plan on either going back to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Detroit, where I worked 2 summers ago, or perhaps in-house counsel somewhere.

I also wanted to thank you for everything you did for me as a coach, and I realize how much of an advantage swimming has given me in law school, both in terms of work ethic and a competitive edge to achieve good grades. Our Dean here says that to succeed in law school you have to be a “legal athlete:” knowing when to gear up for exams, and when to relax, and I think that’s very accurate.

I’m still working out, but not swimming. Two of my friends are in the Army JAG program and have me on a tough cardio and weight regiment at 6:30 AM! My parents are also well, my Dad is looking forward to retirement in a few years, and my sister works in NY for a Public Relations firm, and is having a lot of fun. Hope all is well over at the Flynn complex, with the Eagles, and with your family!
